Information You Provide
A name, phone number, or address entered into a search form is sent to the outside provider that supplies those results. Portland Residents Directory does not retain a separate copy of those search terms on its own servers. If you contact us, we receive the contents of your message and use them to respond.
Automatic Technical Data
Like most hosted services, the site’s infrastructure may log an IP address, browser type, pages requested, and time of access. We review that information in aggregate to maintain the service and understand general readership. Cookies or comparable tools may support basic analytics and, where used, advertising measurement.
How We Use Information
We use the limited information described here to operate the site, resolve technical problems, measure overall traffic, and improve its reference material. We do not sell lists of visitors or create individual visitor profiles.
External Services and Links
The site links to county and state portals, library collections, archives, and outside search services. Each external destination controls the information submitted there under its own privacy terms. Sponsored search results are also furnished by an outside company, not by Portland Residents Directory.
Service Providers and Disclosure
Hosting and support providers may process technical logs for us, and analytics or advertising partners may receive the automatic data described above. We disclose information when valid legal process requires disclosure. Otherwise, we do not release it outside the ordinary service-provider functions described here.
Safeguards and Retention
The service uses an encrypted connection, and technical logs are retained only for the operational purposes described above. Because the site has no accounts, it does not hold a visitor password or profile that could be exposed through an account system.
Visitors Under 18
This service is intended for adults and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from a person under 18. If you believe a minor sent us information, contact us so that we can remove it.
Your Privacy Choices
Texas’s Data Privacy and Security Act guidance describes access, correction, deletion, and opt-out rights in defined situations, with consent expectations for sensitive data. Because we hold little visitor data, a request normally involves checking the contact mailbox and relevant logs, then removing what we find when appropriate. Send a request through the Contact page.
Public records held by Texas government bodies are different from data kept by this private service. The Texas Public Information Act, Government Code Chapter 552, including §552.115 for the public-access timing of birth and death records, governs those custodian records. The Election Code §13.004 protects specified registration identifiers, and §18.009 limits use of registration lists. A request to remove or correct a government record belongs with its custodian, subject to the relevant law and confidentiality rules.
Policy Revisions
We will post a revised policy here when the policy changes. Continuing to use the site after that posting means you accept the revised terms.
